I purchased this backpack in April 2009 and was pleased with the backpack at first. Next a section on one of the straps ripped. Aside from the fact that the backpack itself is heavy I liked the computer sleeve and the large number of pockets. I used the backpack for about 4 months before one of the straps began to rip near where they connect to the backpack. Luckily I got this at a discounted rate on Amazon but I still paid too much for a backpack that only lasted for 4 months. I am very disappointed, sadly I will not be buying another Swiss Gear backpack again.
The material is durable and doesn't show a bit of wear after a quarter of use. It easily holds a plethora of textbooks, an army of school supplies and my laptop. I've been using this back pack for a few months for college. So far it's proven to be relatively waterproof. It took me weeks to find all the pockets, which are handy for separating supplies from snacks from cosmetics from your handy Swiss Army knife (which has its own designated pocket, of course). It's very comfortable to wear even when loaded down, and large enough to hold a heavy quarter's worth of books, but I don't feel like a turtle at a lean 5'6". My only complaint is that the mesh side pockets are shallow and are tapered at the bottom, meaning that even a narrow water bottle is prone to falling out if the pack leans over at all. However, this is not a significant problem so long as it stays upright, and I've yet to lose anything.
I've had this computer backpack for almost a year now. This bag is not waterproof so if it starts raining heavily your laptop and books are going to get wet. I put the most heavy book in the computer pocket for a lower center of gravity. After a few months one of the side pocket zippers stopped functioning after very little use and is always open. It still looks new after a year of abuse.except the noticeably broken zipper pocket. Everything else works fine with that exception. I've never put a computer in it but it seems I wouldn't be able to put all my books and laptop in it at the same time. The straps are still holding up with no sign of wear with average daily load of 30-50lbs.
It carries a lot of weight however isn't vary spacious on the inside. Three heavy textbooks maximum without a computer. The bag itself has quite a bit of weight as a result of its ruggedness and many pockets. So if they put a rain flap on the top of the pockets, made waterproof and smaller quality zippers, and made it of a lighter, durable material, I'd be a happy camper.Point System (1-10):Functionality: 7Quality: 6Durability: 9Bag Weight: 5Full Load: 10Usable Space 5
This is my 1st Swiss Gear & i've fallen for it. Lots of Storage Area, Suttle Color & definitely a crowd puller.
This has plenty of room for all your large textbooks and folders, with a separate compartment for a 15 inch notebook, (my 8.9 inch acer aspire one fits quite well). Lots of additional compartments for pens, calculators and two water bottle holders. A little heavy, bit very comfortable back support. From one college student to another, highly recommended.
